How to Create, Upload, and Edit Attributes

An attribute file is similar to a sample sheet. We suggest you create an Attribute file so that we can associate meta-data to each of your samples. These become helpful to set up meaningful comparisons later on in the experiment design process.

 

Creating an Attribute File during Experiment Set Up

Select "Generate Attribute File". Your Attribute File template will download from your browser. 

Open the downloaded .csv file and add the attributes (i.e. meta-data) you'd like to associate with each of your uploaded samples.

Save your updated Attribute file as a .CSV file.

 

Uploading an Attribute File during Experiment Set Up

Return to ROSALIND and select “Upload Attribute File”. Select “Browse or Drop File” to browse for your Attribute file or drag-and-drop to upload. Then, select Next.

ROSALIND provides you with a list of the attributes you've included as columns in your attribute file. If correct, select Next. 

 

ROSALIND reports back your Attribute file in a sample sheet. 

This is to verify that your Attribute file was uploaded correctly. If you need to make any changes to your attributes, you can do so here directly on this page.

Upon approval, select next to move onto the next step: Setting-Up your comparisons. 

 

Editing an Attribute File after Experiment Creation

An Attribute File can be edited after Experiment Creation for addition of new attributes.

*Note: Addition of New Attributes after Experiment Processing will not re-process QC graphs

 

Download your Attributes File from File Management:

Add new attributes in the Attribute File by adding new columns to the right of existing columns. Save the new file in .CSV format.

Navigate to the Sample page and select 'Add Attribute' from the bottom of the samples table:

*Note: This option is limited to the Experiment Owner or Library Data Curator roles.

Upload the File according to the Uploading an Attribute File directions above.

 

After uploading successfully, you will then see those additional attributes appear on the Sample view. The newly added attributes can also be used to set up new Comparisons for Differential Expression or to reorganize the data within the interactive analysis of the Normalized Expression module.
